That depends on where you live and what the tax rate is for your area? You'll pay tax on the difference between the value of your trade in and the cost of the new phone. Example: If your phone is worth $100 and the phone you want to purchase is $799, you'll pay $699 plus the tax rate in your area on a purchase of $699.

You can check this online at Apple.com > iPhone and try to purchase the model phone you want with the trade you have. Note that the trade value is subject to change once the phone is evaluated by Apple. And even if you do this online, the tax likely won't show unless you complete the transaction.
