Apple Watch keeps stopping and starting charging

I have tried it with 3 different Apple chargers and gave same problem. I bought a reconditioned series 4 and it would do this so much it was difficult to get to 50%. I returned and got a new series 5 and it still does it though not nearly as much. It does fine till it reaches about 75% and then starts cycling off and on with the charging. It does reach 100%. Does it do this to protect the battery (like the iPhone “learns” your schedule) so as to not overcharge?

Hello mjdindc,

It sounds like your Apple Watch frequently stops charging when connected to power. Also, you experienced the same thing on your previous Apple Watch as well. Your watch is expected to charge all the way to 100% as long as nothing interrupts the charging process. I'm happy to help you figure out why it isn't doing that.

Is this happening with the charging cable that came with your Series 5 Apple Watch? Are you charging via a wall outlet using the wall adapter that came with your watch? If the answer is "no" to either of those questions, try charging with the accessories that came with your watch to see if you experience the same thing. It would also be helpful to test using a different wall outlet as well.

If you continue to experience the same thing, make sure your watch is updated and then follow the steps under the "Get help" section here: If your Apple Watch won't charge or it won't turn on. You can view steps on how to update watchOS here: Update your Apple Watch.

Take care.

tried with 3 different Apple cables and 3 different brands of chargers (including an Apple). Never had this problem with my series 1 watch with same cables and chargers. Have not paid much attention to the outlet. I went thru all the trouble shooting tips. In addition, with the watch returned, I spent 45 minutes on the phone trouble shooting. I will monitor a bit more to see how it goes.
