Can I reset the size of the Finder window

It always open to a small virtually useless size. I’ve tried a suggested Automator fix, but the “Services” choice seems to have gone away. The other advice (1. hold command key; 2. resize window; 3. hold alt-option/right click on Finder icon in the Dock. That will reset it for one occasion and then it’s back to the useless tiny window.

Is this something that has to be done in the Terminal window? Is it just no longer possible because for some reason Apple thinks this is the ideal design for a Finder window?

Thanks for any light shed on the topic.

Open a Finder window, if it is too small or not a size you like then drag the corner until you like the size of the window.

Close the Finder window. Open the Finder window and it should remember the last window size you had opened.

Hi Jean Shea,

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities! As I understand it, Finder opens to a small window every time you launch it and doesn't seem to retain changes you've made after re-sizing it. Is that correct?

Are you referring to retaining changes after you've restarted the Mac, or just after closing a Finder window?

I tested this out on my own Mac and it seems to save changes to the Finder window size, so you may want to start by testing this in a newly-created administrator account. Knowing whether you can replicate the behavior there would help to work out if it's a system-wide issue, or if it's user-specific. Check out this link for the steps: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Feel free to post back with the results.

Enjoy your day.
