home share does not work

I know how convenient it is to use Home Sharing; I'd like to help. First, if you haven't already, I'd suggest quitting iTunes on both devices, then restart both the Mac and PC.

Poking around a little further, I see that this error seems to be a DNS error. See error 5504 - Apple Community

I found out that my computer and my library had apostrophes in their names (e.g., Robert's Mac Mini), and changed them to see if the problem was this illegal character but I'm still getting the 5504 error. It's possible that another reboot is necessary; I don't know.

But perhaps this gives someone else a clue.

I have this problem, too, and restarting the machines does not help.

I am having the problem with two MacOS machines, too: one is a MacMini, and one is my MacBook Pro. Both are Catalina.

Interestingly, I can import successfully from the Mac Mini to the MacBook Pro, but I get this error when I try to import from the MacBook Pro to the Mini.

It would really help if someone at Apple could tell us what this error code means.
