Restore Finder Sidebar Favorites

Does anyone know where the list of Finder Sidebar Favorites are stored?

Or how to restore them with Time Machine?

I have several custom Favorites and sometimes after an update, they disappear. Going to all the locations one at a time to manually restore them is cumbersome.

The com.apple.sidebarlists.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences has not been modified in years, so it does not have the current items.

I think you put your finger on the issue. Rebuild the .plists then try again.

From your Finder "Go" menu > "Go to folder" then copy & paste this file path:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Click Go.

Delete the plist file.

Then in the same folder find and delete com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

Then, restart, or log out and in again.

(You may have to reset some Finder preferences the way you like them)

Thanks for your reply, but I don't want to reset them again. I have done that and now I want to restore them to what they were before they were lost.

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist has not been modified in more than a year. So if I restore it and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist nothing will have changed.

The custom Favorites seem to be stored somewhere else. Are those values stored in some kind of db file?
