What is libexec? Is it safe?

Hi all,

Since a few weeks my Norton Anti Virus pops (every 10 minutes or so) up asking what I want to do with libexex.

I do not know what libexec is nor what to answer? Can I allow? Should I block? or remove it as I found on websites as https://sensorstechforum.com/nl/libexec-mac-virus-remove/ or hhttps://www.2-spyware.com/remove-libexec-virus.html

If anybody could help me, I'd be grateful!

Kind regards,

benajmin

That /usr/libexec folder is installed by macOS and your unnecessary anti-virus tool is demonstrating what we have been telling users for years about false detections — flagging legitimate parts of the operating system as infections.

There are no viruses to be found on your Mac, or anyone else's Mac, so just completely uninstall your worthless, anti-virus product per the vendor's instructions, and trust the built-in macOS security of the operating system to do its thing.

Get rid of Norton. It's entirely, unequivocally, 100% useless. It's reporting the standard macOS file, rapportd, as malware. Proof (yet again) that the makers of Norton have absolutely no clue what they're doing with Macs.

There are no Mac viruses. None. Zero. Nada. Zip. There's nothing for any AV software to look for. There are plenty of Trojans (malware YOU have to install in some manner). No AV software of any kind will even attempt to stop you from installing one. Since they literally do nothing useful, why do you want to keep Norton?
