Is it possible to recover deleted messages on IPhone X without iTunes or icloud backup?
iPhone X, iOS 13
iCloud to my memory only keeps a couple of the most recent backups. See this link and when you choose to restore from iCloud backup, you'll be given the date options available --> Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
iCloud does save your two most recent backups, it each day, the previous one is overwritten, so today you would have access to yesterday’s backup and the backup from the day before.
This is assuming that you backup with iCloud every day. The only way that you can see both backups is by erasing the device in order to restore the backup. You don’t see both backups in the settings.
Look at this discussion.
Restoring of a DELETED iCloud backup of an iPad
Yes, but I am not sure if it was before the messages disappeared.
I dont know if the messages where deleted or what happened, I just realised that a part of a conversation was missing. But I guess I accidentaly deleated it.
can I see all the times its been backed up on ICloud or just the most recent one?
The better question is do you have messages turned on in iCloud. Go to the same place I directed you and see if you have Messages turned on. If you do and it's been on, the backup won't restore a deleted message.
If it wasn't turned on before you deleted the message, and you have a backup from then, then yes, you can restore from the backup. Just ask yourself how important these messages are to restore your phone to a date from before you started syncing messages in the cloud?
That's how restoring from a backup works. This is why I keep asking if the messages are really worth the hassle you'll be going to through? There is no such thing as selectively restoring bits of a backup. It's all or nothing.
Hello Camilla,
The answer is a NO.
Axel F.
But the messages are still there somewhere right? There must be a way?
They are not there anywhere because you said they were deleted. Which then leaves the backup on iCloud or a computer and you said that there is no backup. So, I am afraid, they are gone.
Axel F.
Ok, how do I know if I have a backup on icloud?
Go to Settings > Your name, Apple ID, iTunes & App Store > iCloud
Is iCloud backup turned on?
Yes I have messages turned on in iCloud. But do you mean that the backup can not restore deleted imessages even if its turned on?
The reality is if you sync messages in the cloud, your backup doesn't backup messages, so yes, if messages in the cloud is turned on, a backup won't contain the messages.
Ok, but what about if I did not have it turned on when I deleted the messages?
Ok, but I can only see one backup in iCloud and its from yesterday. Does iCloud only save the latest backup or can I see older backups and choose to restore from the otherones somehow?
