2020 MacBook Air vs. 2014 MacBook Pro

Is the 2020 Intel Core i5 MacBook Air more powerful than a Mid-2014 13" Retina Intel Core i5 (2.6 GHz) MacBook Pro? I have the 2014 Pro with 8GB Ram and 256 SSD and would get the 2020 Air with the same configuration if it is more powerful. I’m looking at the 2020 Air due to its lower weight and price.

I think you should get the 2020 macbook air model, it will be comparable or better in terms of preformance and will be supported with the newest version of mac OS for far longer than the 2014 model.

It's kind of difficult to do any kind of perfect comparison because there are so many ways to measure performance.

Intel's Core iX series has been quite a good performer over the years. However, they're in maybe the 10th generation and there have definitely been improvements. Definitely don't rely on clock speed to be your only consideration. Benchmarks are a crude means to judge performance, but they do give an idea of how newer processors perform.

There doesn't seem to be any score for the 2020 MBA since it hasn't officially been released, although I've heard of pre-release samples being evaluated by reviewers. The latest MacBook Air model I see in their database is the late 2018, and it's slightly better in the Geekbench 5 benchmark than the late 2014 MBP.

Yes. Everything about it will be faster.
