iMovie will not export

I have an iMovie I'm trying to export/save. It pops up on my desktop as two separate files... One is a Quicktime file that, if I click on it, it says "Cannot open, file not supported by Quicktime". It saves as another file that is a nondescript file and will not open because there are no apps on my laptop that will open it.

It's a 17 minute video of me reading a book. It has a music file looped underneath my reading. And pictures inserted as I read along in the book.

Everything saved normally before I added the music and pictures.

I tried removing the music and pictures and that did not help. The files were the same as before. They would not open.

So frustrated. Please give advice if you can!

Is it possible that you have not waited for the export to complete? When you export to your desktop, temporary files will initially appear while the export is completing. The temporary files cannot be opened. When the export is done, the temporary files will disappear and be replaced by an Mp4 file or .mov file that you can play. Check on your desktop to see if the final Mp4 or .mov file is present. If not, re-export and wait a sufficient period for the export to complete. You will see the temporary files appear and then disappear after a while.
