Screen capture problem in MacOS Catalina

Hello,

When trying to screen capture a specific region on my screen, it captures a section of my desktop background, and not the region I want elsewhere on my desktop. I did not have this problem in OS Mojave. Help!

shift command 4 captures and then moves off the screen Capturing a section of the screen no longer works properly. Using shift+cmd+4 initially captures OK but the image on the desktop then disappears off the right side of the screen. On checking Finder there is no record of the screenshot. In the past I was always able leave the images on screen until I needed them. I am still running Catalina but whether this makes a difference? Any help to solve this would be much appreciated. Ken

Screen capture location is not working Mojave 10.14.6 How do I fix the location of where screen capture pictures go? Ive tried to use terminal "defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop" without any error yet it doesn't work. I can't find where my captures are going currently either.

Screenshot selection tool not working in Catalina 10.15.5 Hi, All -- I like using Screenshot on occasion and was always able to use the selection tool to outline the portion of the screen that I wanted to capture, but now that tool doesn't seem to work. I am still able to capture the entire screen with Screenshot, and it captures and appears on my desktop, but I am not able to select and capture only the part of the screen that I want -- nuts! Is there something that I'm missing? Clicking on the selection tool item grays the screen, but no outline tool appears. I am able to do a screen shot capture with selection in Preview, and that works beautifully, but not with Screenshot -- what's up? Thanks! Latest Catalina update 10.15.5 on an iMac 5K Retina.
