Monitoring activity on minor child’s iPhone/ipad

Hi there

is there a way to monitor my child’s activity on her mobile device (iPad/iPhone)

My 11 year old child has changed their passcode in order to prevent me from monitoring her activity. I am concerned on who she is contacting online.

I don’t want to snoop and check everything but I am concerned about internet predictors and therefor want the ability to be able to checkin from time to time.

I used have my profile loaded on her Touch ID but she has since deleted me. Next I will prevent passcode changes under screen time.

1) as parent is there a way to monitor her activity, remotely

2) is there a way to unlock her phone without the passcode or having to wipe the phone. I do have her icloud credentials as well as listing her as a child under our iCloud family settings.

thanks

Hi there, Lobelari.

I see that you'd like to monitor your child's iPhone without having to unlock their device. You'd like to do it remotely, and I'm glad to help with this.

Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- This article explains Screen Time and the types of things you can do to help keep your child safe. Since you're already using Family Sharing, scroll down to Use Screen "Time with your family" on how to set it up.

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- These are the parental controls available in Screen Time. Select each category to learn more.

Take care.

The low tech way of doing this is to tell her that you will be periodically checking her phone, that if the passcode has been changed so that you can't get into it, you will impose a sanction (wipe the phone, take it away, whatever works for you).

You may want to consider keeping a cheap pre-paid flip phone around in the event you want to take the phone away from her but still allow basic communication.

Thanks for the info. I already have both of these set-up. Unfortunately I did not restrict certain social media apps as daughter uses some of these for communication at school. i have become aware of someone making inappropriate requests to my daughter.

While parent controls restrict which app are use at the chosen times, neither parental controls nor screen time cannot show the actual content. Therefore I can’t check what the actual/messages are.

Is there a way of using a master passcode or even the screen time passcode/Apple ID passcode to unlock her phone?
