Why can't I stream video from my optical drive when sharing it on Zoom?

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running HighSierra 10.13.6. When I try to share video from the optical drive using zoom, the screen goes gray. What's the work-around?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

if it's a commercial dvd then it's because it's not legal for zoom to allow as that would result in it stripping the DRM of the movie

if it's not then it could be a video overlay thing which one would likely have to ask zoom about
