Making a scatter plot in Numbers?

I'm trying to make a scatter plot using Apple Numbers. I have 2 columns of data, integer values. If I select the 2 columns and say inset chart, it plots but uses the 1st column for both X and Y. if I try I try to edit it by going to Series and changing the Y definition, when I hit return it changes my new values back to the original ones it used. I know how to make scatter plots and in a bind I use Google-Sheets or Open Office. I'd really like to use Numbers. Can anyone help me?

Have you placed both x and y values into non-header columns?

Category charts require the Category labels to be in a Header column, and the values to be charted for each category to be in a body (ie. non-header) column.

x-y scatter charts hart two values against each other, and require these value pairs to each be in the same row of a pair of body columns.

Barry
