is it possible to merge old iPad with new without loosing data?

I want to give my old iPad to my daughter. I have backed up my old iPad to my Mac. I now want to send this info to my new iPad - which already has lots of data on. I want to retain all information / merged. Is this possible?

If I 'restore from back-up' - does this override all current info on the new iPad - Don't want to press the button!..Help!

iPad Air, iOS 12

Merge? No.

You’ll have the same iCloud storage with the use of the same Apple ID, so that’ll be common. Same apps, as you’re using the same Apple ID. Apps that store their settings in iCloud will already work consistently across the iPads, similar to how iCloud Keychain provides consistent passwords across iPads and iPhones and macOS.

But there’s no way to (automatically) merge two environments into one, and have anything meaningful happen around whatever collisions might (will?) arise. Restore clobbers what went before. Merge is manual.

This is hopefully all that you need to know concerning your data transfer options:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201269

Before passing your old iPad to your daughter, after transferring your data, you will need to prepare the old iPad for reuse:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201351

If your daughter does not yet have her own AppleID, this should be created during the subsequent device setup process. Do not be tempted to share a common AppleID between your devices as, ultimately, you are likely to run-into significant issues down the line. If you need (or intend) to share Apps or resources, you should consider setup of Family Sharing:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201088

I hope this is helpful in covering all the bases.

Yes, this CAN be done as I have actually done this several times over time with my Mom’s iPad.

You will need to purchase and use a third party full computer app/program to accomplish this.

Look at either Imazing

OR

TouchCopy by Wide Angle Software

Either one of these will accomplish what you need to do.

Best of Luck to You!
