Found an old response from Apple that says to enable push notification. But that is apparently not supported on iPad.
iPad Air 2, iOS 13
I am running iPadOS 13.3.1 on iPad Air 2. As I said above, the videos start to play, but stop and skip forward, skipping most of the story. This happens on every cnn.com video, but not on other sites.
Have you tried clearing website data in Safari? Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website data. Or you can select Settings>Safari>Advanced>Website Data and then simply clear all the data without clearing the history, of swipe down through the list and look for anything CNN related and delete that.
I tried that, removing the website data for cnn.com, and it did not improve the situation. I do not want to remove data from all sites. Again, this is just for the news videos from cnn.com. Even the ads that preceed the main article stream perform correctly, as does youtube and everything else.
Based on a 2015 Apple reply on the same question, CNN started using a protocol that depends on push notifications, which are apparently not supported on iPadOD Safari. Any other ideas?
I am running iPadOS 13.4 on my iPad Air 3 and I watch CNN videos all the time. I’m not sure where you read that information about the push notifications. What behavior do you see if you try to play a video?
I watch CNN videos on my iPad all the time. What isn’t working for you? Are you talking about news videos, or live TV?
The videos from news stories on cnn.com will not play correctly in the browser. The ads play fine, and then the main story will start and then skip most of the content.
It might help you if you update the iPad to iOS 13.4. Out of curiosity, do you have the CNN app? If you do, do the videos play properly in the app?
iPadOS 13.4 is better. The CNN videos still stutter a bit, and sometimes get stuck in a loop, but the content will play. Thanks.
I’m glad to hear that it has improved. I wonder if it would help to remove the CNN website data again, restart your iPad and then see if that improves it further.
