Unable to create mailbox error

I used to have a few custom mailboxes, with Coupons being my favorite. However because for some unknown reason Sent messages were not accessible on my iPhone since February (though available through my ISP webmail), I deleted the email account on my iPhone and recreated it.


Now I can get all incoming mail, and I can see those in Trash when I delete them, these two mailboxes are the ONLY mailboxes on my iPhone, while the custom mailboxes are still available via my ISP webmail. Following the instructions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207213, every attempt to create Coupons or any other custom mailbox fails with an "Unable to create mailbox" error.


Searching the community, I see an old post from 2018, but nothing current. Can anyone help?

I just got off the phone with an Apple senior advisor, who walked me through deleting and adding the Spectrum account back in. I must have had an error going back to February that caused the initial problem, which got worse today when I accidentally added it back in as POP. With the advisor I set it as IMAP this tine, which not only fixed the custom folder problem, it also fixed the older problem that I was working on today.


bottom line, I am a happy camper. It’s all working perfectly now.

I suspected it was because coupons already exists on the server. However I get the error message trying to create a custom mailbox with a name that is not on the server. We also have to keep in mind that the custom mailboxes on the server are not showing up in Mail on my iPhone, which Spectrum is going to blame on Apple.
