Need help signing in to old iPad that haven't used for years, but keeps asking for password used then!

The Activation Lock screen asks for Apple ID, which is the original, and the password that was used to set up the iPad (over 8-10 years ago). I'm trying to activate it for a student temorarily staying with us.
It shouldn't be asking you for the old password; it's more likely there was a typo in the Apple ID that was used on that iPad.
Does this iPad have a camera? If not, it won't be worth trying to set up.
