Accidentally associated a phone number to the wrong contact

Hi,

A personal phone number from a business that I’ve been texting has been accidentally associated with the wrong contact. When I went to add that number to an existing contact, I tapped the wrong contact. Now all those messages are associated with the wrong business name in Messages. I removed the phone number from that contact, but Messages still sees it as that wrong business name.

How can I disassociate that person’s number with the that wrong Contact in Messages?

Hello MyKidsDad,

I understand that you've accidentally associated someone with the wrong contact information. I am happy to see if we can fix your contact.

Have you tried deleting the contact that has the wrong name and number associated and then creating a new contact card with the correct information? If not, I would recommend trying that and then test it in messages.

Let me know if that worked.

Have a great day!

Hi,

I was going to try that because I figured it would do the trick, but I was wondering if there was another way.

What ended up happening is that after I’d removed that person from the wrong Contact, he sent another text a day later and he was no longer associated with that wrong one. That allowed me to re-do the assignment of his name.

Thanks very much for your reply! I’ll keep that in mind if I mess that up with someone else. It’ll be much quicker with your method, I’m sure.
