Kernel Panic on 16" i9 MBPwRD

My MacBook Pro is having a kernel panic about three times a week when in sleep mode. I received this MBP in early Feb with 10.15.3 so I decided to wait for 10.15.4 to see if that corrected the issue yet this is the second time it has happened since the latest update.

Hardware config:

I have a 2019 16" i9 MBPwRD w/ 64GB of RAM and an Intel UHD Graphics 630 and an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M graphics card. Sometimes I'm connected to my Thunderbolt dock, other times my USB C dock when mobile and today it happened with only my Apple provided USB C power cable attached. I don't see a pattern in the hardware and the error message seems to be connected to the internal hardware.

Here is the error:

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff801ae16487): "AppleIntelFramebuffer::setPowerState(0xffffff86afd6a000 : 0xffffff7f9e3c5d88, 1 -> 0) timed out after 45970 ms"@/AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-6153.101.6/iokit/Kernel/IOServicePM.cpp:5296

So I have Gen 1 of Macbook Pro 16 (base model). I had this problem (see comments above). After I turned off Power Nap in the earlier versions, the problem went away. When 10.15.5 was released I turned PowerNap on again. I haven't had a problem since. I do have a my TimeMachine drive plugged into machine, also overnight. No problems. I haven't updated .6 yet.

I installed 10.15.6 this morning and so far so good, no panics/crashes yet. Not like I've done excessive testing but it used to happen every time I put the system to sleep while plugged into an external monitor (in 10.15.5, with power nap off) and it's successfully slept and woken a few times today without issue.

Really hoping this is solved now but will report back if I get any more issues.

My son and I have identical 2018 iMacs. At some point, probably 10.15.4, my son's iMac started having kernel panics every time it would go to sleep. Mine has been rock solid. The crash dump starts out similar to what you are seeing:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800f615f27): "AMDFramebufferVIB::setPowerState(0xffffff8060e20000 : 0xffffff7f90337d76, 0 -> 1) timed out after 45542 ms"@/AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-6153.121.2/iokit/Kernel/IOServicePM.cpp:5296

The only apparent difference being the graphics cpu involved (AMD vs AppleIntel). He's pretty patient, but was starting to get pretty frustrated, so we started really looking at the issue. The last thing we tried was having him switch graphics resolutions. He was pretty happy with the default, so had never changed this, but I had. It has never gone overnight without crashing, but after more than a day, no panics so far.

The thought here is that this routine is looking for a file (preference?) or something in PRAM - maybe both, that doesn't get created unless and until the user makes an initial setting.

I'll post again if there's a panic, but if you don't see anything from me, it's still running fine.

I have a 2019 16" MBP and started having the same problem which always occurs with an external monitor connected and the MB going into sleep mode. I've found a work around which prevents the crash but by no means fixes the core issue. While connected to an external monitor I disable sleep mode. During a day of use the computer will not go to sleep but rather the screen saver comes on after a set time and requires a password to log back in. When the MB is disconnected from the external monitor and I'm mobile I turn sleep mode back on. As stated this is not a fix but simply a workaround. Hope this helps.

I have now gone 7-8 weeks without a Kernel Panic issue since Apple replaced my Logic Board. I no longer have to turn off any of the system preferences listed in many of the posts in this thread (ie. Automatic Graphics Switching, Enable Power Nap, Put Hard Drive to Sleep when Possible, Prevent Computer from Sleeping Automatically when the Display is off). Appears to be a Logic Board Issue with the 2019 16" MacBook Pro.
