Kernel Panic on 16" i9 MBPwRD

Your computer was restarted because of a problem.

My MacBook Pro is having a kernel panic about three times a week when in sleep mode. I received this MBP in early Feb with 10.15.3 so I decided to wait for 10.15.4 to see if that corrected the issue yet this is the second time it has happened since the latest update.

Hardware config:

I have a 2019 16" i9 MBPwRD w/ 64GB of RAM and an Intel UHD Graphics 630 and an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M graphics card. Sometimes I'm connected to my Thunderbolt dock, other times my USB C dock when mobile and today it happened with only my Apple provided USB C power cable attached. I don't see a pattern in the hardware and the error message seems to be connected to the internal hardware.

Had the same problem, solved it 4 days ago.

Status here

My GPU Panic sleep problem is still solved. I have since installed my video-rendering tools, my developer tools, all my other stuff.

My energy saving stuff is back to normal.

Having it gooing to sleep on power, on batteries no problems so far.

Running 10.15.4

Solution for me was

My brand new macbook pro 16 (Shipped 2. april 2020) also restarted (crashed) over nigth - actually it crashed (Kernel Panic GPU) everytime it went to sleep mode. I had nothing installed except default OSX with updates.

Solution details

Reset: Pram & NVRAM (still crashed)
Reset: SMC (still crashed)
Internet Recovery Command+Option+R (when booting) (Crashed under installation, but continued afterwards)
Disabled "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off." & "PowerNap.." in Energy Saver settings (Problems disappeared)
Two days later I enabled "Prevent computer from sleeping...." and "Powernap..." again (Still no problems)

I don't know if step 1-3 is necessary, but I think so.

So a macbook pro 16 that I almost returned, is now working perfectly - and I'm very happy:-)

Resolution: Potential fix identified - For a future OS update

Still no reply from Apple; submitted another user's panic log from 10.15.5 in FBA case, but not sure if Apple thought this was actually fixed in 10.15.5 or not.

My MacBook Pro i9 32gb 5500M 4GB running 10.15.5 Catalina is crashing every single time I send it to sleep mode. Both power nap options are off.

After it restarts - it will always crash right after showing the login screen and this will repeat 3 to 5 times. After this it will continue to work as nothing happened until I chose the lid or use sleep mode. While going through that reboot loop the surface over the touch panel will get extremely hot.

Sent it back to the store to check.

No, the Catalina 10.15.5 19F101 not resolved the problem. Just get another KP:

I have an open case ticket on apple's support. I'm looking forward to get apple's position about it.

I've had my 16" since march-ish but didn't expereince these problems before updating to 15.5, now I randomly get stuck in boot loops and crashes from sleep. I like the machine but this level of unreliability is unacceptable.

Well, add me to the list. Brand new $4,500 MacBook Pro 16” and after 2.5 months it has thunderbolt kernel panics and won’t stay started up for more than 45 seconds before ... poof goes the fans and screen black. Took it to Apple on Fathers Day, great way to spend that day, to have it gone to this day (3/Jul/2020). My support ticket at My Support always returns an error...no details...and. Allying the Apple Store where I left it is useless...they know nothing, and say the technicians are waiting on a part. What part? What’s wrong with it?

back to using my 2011 MacBook Pro 13” which is a rock. Never again will I purchase an Apple MacBook with this miserable experience hanging over me. Complete customer build gone in for repairs a few months in, and the computer hasn’t ever left my desk! It mostly played Apple Music during work#from-home (cough, on a Windows machine, cough), and processed some photos.

Well at least its likely not a personal hardware issue or a piece of software doing it if the community has similar issues.

same problem. I have two 16" MBP. Only started after 10.15.4 upgrade on each. one crashes if I have external monitors plugged in. the other crashes while charging over night.

It's been 2 days buying this 16" i9 MBP.

I start my morning seeing apple logo and panic report instead of coffee.

yeah... but its not possible to give feedback for the the actual os 10.15.4. So its useless.
