Not defaulting time mobile number

When sending a text message, my iPhone does not always default to a contacts mobile number. This has meant me accidentally texting a message to a landline number.

Is there anyway I can change this.

Iphone Problem with Setting Default Text Number For a contact on my iphone, how does one set the default number for texts to be different from the default phone number? Here is my situation: I have a contact who wants to be called on their landline (which is listed as home in the Contacts card). They also have an iPhone, whose number is listed as iPhone in the Contacts card. When I use the Contacts App to send them a message, Contacts will send the message to them using SMS rather than as an iMessage. I can't figure out how to change this. Note: I am able to iMessage this contact, but to do so I either have to enter their iphone number directly in iMessage or (when using Contacts) manually change the default text number when I select them. The iPhone should be smarter than this. Is there some crazy parameter that is set wrong for the contact? Thanks in advance!

Re: Setting default number for text messages (Same question as in 2013, title “Setting default number for text messages”) My iPhone does not choose a contact’s mobile number for texts. Instead it sends the text to another number in the contact’s list and I get an error. The contact has a mobile number listed, and it is first in the list. There is only one mobile number in this contact. I don’t have this trouble with other contacts on the phone. I am surprised texting is using the wrong number in the first place, and there is no setting to override it. I prefer fixing this situation than to create a new contact for this person. Iphone 7s, iOS 13.3.1.

imessage not using default line as set in the contact I have 2 lines (business & personal) on my iPhone 13. I set default lines to use in each contact. When I send an imessage to a contact that has the default set to use the business line, I am often frustrated to find that the message got sent from my personal line. Sometimes, even when I change the line to business during the imessage conversation, it still reverts back to my personal line. I don't have this problem with phone calls, only with imessage. Why does it do that???

Historically the iPhone would have defaulted to a mobile number but since ios13 it doesn’t. This surely needs looked at.

If you have multiple numbers stored against a contact, you need to choose the number before a message can be sent. You need to be careful while selecting.
