Problems with Voice Control and Catalina

I've just purchased a macbook pro. For some reason when I enable voice control the fan runs at high speed most of the time. This doesn't happen when I just use dictation. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Hello dcutrara,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I understand that your MacBook Pro fans run at full speed when using Voice Control, and I'd like to share some information with you.

First, I believe this support article can help explain why you might hear fan noise:

About fans and fan noise in your Apple product

If those tips don't seem to help, try resetting the System Management Controller. Here's how:

I hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

dcutrara,

Thanks for getting back in touch with us after reviewing those support articles.

If certain apps use a large amount of energy, it wouldn't be uncommon for the fans to run during those actions. If you'd like, I suggest taking a look at the processes that are running on your Mac when the fan noise begins. This might help isolate the issue to a particular app. Here's how:

How to use Activity Monitor on your Mac

From there, the SMC is responsible for the fans and other thermal-management features. If you haven't yet, I recommend giving that step a try.
