My AirPods are flashing amber.

My AirPods are flashing amber. When I put one AirPod in the case it's green and when I put both in the case it starts flashing amber. The whole case and AirPods are fully charged. I tried resetting but it wouldn't do anything. I can only connect the AirPods to my iPhone when the right airbud is in the case. These are brand new headphones and a brand new case. please help
