New Hard Drive won't update to correct amount of space

I upgraded my 250GB hard drive to 1TB and it shows I have 250GB hard drive in the storage tab of "about this MAC" menu. My question is, how do I refresh my MacBook to see I have 1TB of hard drive space?

With newer versions of macOS you may need to click on "View" within Disk Utility and select "Show All Devices" before the physical drive appears in the left pane of Disk Utility. If you erase the physical drive you should not have any issues. It is unfortunate Apple has made this change to hide the physical drives in Disk Utility.

Here is an Apple article showing this procedure:

How did you perform the upgrade and transfer of macOS onto the new SSD?

The new SSD first needs to be properly erased. Then you have these options:

1) Install macOS and migrate your stuff from the old drive

2) Restore from a Time Machine backup

3) Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the original drive to the new SSD.

All of these options will provide you with a properly configured SSD and system.

I bought the MacBook Pro with a 1TB hard drive in it. The original owner upgraded the hard drive from 250GB to 1TB.

I am new to MacBook world and know had formatted the hard drive and it was recognized and visually confirmed to be a 1TB hard drive. I guess I will have to find Sierra OS somewhere and format my hard drive a different way to get the hard drive in the storage tab of "about this MAC" menu to be recognized as its true size (1TB).

Any Suggestions?

Thank You :)

You didn't erase the drive properly. The white rectangular pop-up tip box in your picture says you didn't make a GUID partition which is critical for macOS. Please review the Apple article I provided earlier as it explains exactly how to erase the physical drive as GUID partition and MacOS Extended (Journaled). The article also includes screenshots to assist you. The link I provided earlier should open about halfway down the page where it talks about "Partition Maps" & "Schemes" that explains how to properly erase the physical drive for use with macOS. You will need to be booted into Recovery Mode or from a USB installer in order to erase the drive.
