MacOS on an external drive, Boot Camp not working!

Everywhere on the Internet people's asking how to install Windows via Boot Camp on an external drive.

My problem is different: I installed Catalina on an external SSD because it's like 400% faster, but I can't proceed with Boot Camp procedure since the first thing it asks me is to remove any external drive.

Which obviously I cannot.

Is there any way around this?

On your model, OSXRESERVED is created on your macOS disk. When macOS is on external disk, this causes errors.

  • Install macOS on internal disk, if it does not exist right now.
  • Disconnect all external storage, run SMC and NVRAM Reset.
  • Install Windows on the internal disk.
  • Connect the external macOS disk and boot from it and test.
