Upgrade to Sierra from Yosemite

Hi, I have downloaded Sierra to my iMac (mid 2011 model) to replace Yosemite. I have launched the download but nothing has occurred?

What have I done wrong??

I have backed up via time machine to an external HD

How do I download High Sierra to a 2009 iMac running Yosemite I need to update my late 2009 ImMac"s OS I recently restored it because of Grey screen and it now is running Yosemite. Is High Sierra what I should to and how do I download and install it?

Try it in Safe Mode...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
