MacOS Catalina 10.15.4 Crashes

My MacBook started crashing randomly after the last update. The screensaver and power saving is off, and the reboots happen if applications are open, or they are closed and it is just sitting idle.

"Supplemental Update fixes nothing. Still crashing after screen-saver idle. Reboot has happened twice since the supplemental update was applied."

The Ultimate Solution...

Reinstall the macOS Anew:

I. If it applies: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support

Then...

II. Reinstall the macOS Anew:

  1. Boot: into Recovery Mode.
  2. Open: Disk Utilities
  3. Delete: the partition
  4. Reinstall: the macOS

Once Installed Anew...

III. Reinstall All the Software:

  1. Use Migration Assistant to move Apps a Files back in.
  2. Ask developers for new software keys - but contact the developers only --- none other --- or you may end up with malware and spyware installed.

Will this problem be resolved if you install a fresh os???

I have a backup from about a month back. I will loose data if I revert back to that date. But then it is better then the frequent system crashes.

I need to decide if insallling the fresh 10.15.4 will also crash if yes then it makes no sense to do that and simply better to revert to the old backup.

Exactly my symptoms too.

Annoyingly, it went from happening 10x a day to not happening at all for about 6 days, but it's started again now.

I uninstalled iStatMenus yesterday and it hasn't restarted since, but given the intermittent nature of this, I don't know if this is an indicator or not. I'm on 10.5.5. Fairly certain this started happening at 10.5.4.

Week of July 5 I've had to shut down MAC manually at least twice daily as nothing will function through Firefox. I cannot shut down computer through regular means, must disconnect power and let rest for approx. 5 minutes. Today after doing same, I cannot get any function with Firefox. I don't believe I ever got a Catalina 10.5.5 update - cannot determine if I received or not. Frustrating.

Your issue does not sound like it belongs in this thread. This thread was about auto-reboots due to wake-from-sleep issues. Has nothing to do with Firefox or any other App.

If your Mac doesn’t automatically notify you of the 10.15.5 update, then you can go int System Preferences and initiate the update procedure yourself. If your Mac is running any earlier version of Catalina, then it should locate the update.
