Parental Restrictions

Hey! So I have Parental Restrictions on my phone. Every time we go to add a contact, it says the contact is allowed and is a "Downtime Contact" but when we go to message that person, the name shows up in red and I cannot message them. Any help? Thanks!

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Hi wormsocks,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that Screen Time is enabled on your iPhone, but contacts that are added to be allowed during Downtime are blocked when you try to use them. I can see why you'd reach out about this; I'd like to help. First, I'd recommend checking to see if your contacts are being synced with iCloud; I suggest this because Communication Limits apply to iCloud contacts: Keep your contacts up to date on all of your devices with iCloud

After confirming the account you're using for contacts, I'd recommend trying these steps next:

  • Open Settings > Screen Time > Communication Limits > During Downtime > change to Everyone.
  • From Screen Time > Downtime; disable Downtime.
  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Open Settings > Screen Time > enable Downtime.
  • Add your preferred contacts in Screen Time > Communication Limits > During Downtime > Specific Contacts.
  • Test to see if you're able to reach out to these contacts during Downtime using the Phone, FaceTime or Messages apps.

Let me know what you find.

Best Regards.
