Duplicate Groups in Contacts

Not a question, but my solution. I am running Contacts 9.0 on a Mac Mini with 10.11.6.

'Groups' in Contacts had been duplicating rampantly.

I devised the following work-around:

• Quit Contacts, and shut off all communications on my iPad.

• Log in to iCloud, select 'Contacts'

• Select the upper-most duplicated group e.g. Friends/Family and give it a different name e.g. Family/Familyy

• Highlight the next Friends/Family group, press and release Delete, press and release Enter.

I repeated this deletion process ≈ 600 times, until all the duplicated Friends/Family groups were deleted. IMPORTANT: although it is tempting, DO NOT do this faster than the system accepts the entry. Doing so will allow some duplicates to remain. They will immediately resume the rampant duplication process! Apparently, renaming one group halts the undesired duplication process of that individual group

• Repeat this procedure with each remaining group

After some 72 hours, no duplicates have appeared on my desk top. The groups all have the new names, as do the groups in my iPad. (The iPad never had the duplicate groups - go figure)

Now all I need to do is deal with the repetitive stress!

A constructive use of COVID19 down time!
