Country/ Region postcode

I’m looking to change my country to Ireland as I live there but in order to change it I need to put in my postcode, every time I try to do this I am told the postcode is incorrect even though I’m certain it’s not. I can’t purchase anything as I have Irish credit cards and my apple account thinks I’m in England.
