my phone is currently stuck on the apple logo screen, it won't turn on fully, it just keeps going black and then logo screen every minute or so. I've tried holding the top then button volume button and then side. im not sure why its doing this, and I don't know how to fix it. open to any and all suggestions.

You’ve messed up the vol button procedure a bit. Here’s what you should do instead:
press vol up and release like how you would when controlling the volume.
press vol down and release.
press and hold the side button till the screen shuts off. Keep holding till you see the Apple logo and then release.
if it doesn’t work try recovery mode:
press vol up and release.
press vol down and release.
press and hold the side button till the screen shuts off. Continue holding even if you see the Apple logo, and release when you see the connect to iTunes/computer. Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes, and try update iPhone option. If it doesn’t work you’ll have to restore, which will erase all data on the iPhone.
