hidden preview with hourglass showing up on my texts

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand when you open a conversation thread in the Messages app, you're seeing restricted or restricted contact.

Managing your text messages is an important feature on your iPhone. I can help point you in the right direction.

On your iPhone, please navigate to Settings > Screen Time > Communication Limits > underneath, "Allowed Communication" please select, During Screen Time. You'll want to select, "Everyone." This will help remove restricted or restricted contact, from appearing in the Messages app.

I had the same problem and fixed it be going into the contact card for the person this was happening with (where I saw the hourglass) and deleted his phone number. Then hit DONE. Then re-entered his phone number and hit DONE again. All good now.

This fixed the problem on my Mac too. The other person was using an iPhone, I use Google Contacts instead of Mac's contact software, when I looked at the contact there was some odd google link in one of the contact spaces. I deleted it, saved the contact, closed iMessages, reopened iMessages and problem gone!

The same thing has happened to me as well. It has happened with my husband, I can get his iMessages and texts on my phone but not my MacBook. They are showing an hour glass and Preview Hidden message. When I send him a text through my computer, it does populate to my phone but I cannot see the message I sent on the computer. How do I turn this off?

This is only happening on my MacBook Pro and only with my son's messages. I can see them on every other device. Why?

This is what is happening to me. I can see my sisters text on my iPhone but on the Mac it says preview hidden and an hour glass. I cannot see any of her texts on my Mac?

This was not the correct answer. I have the same issue but it only deals with threads from non-iphone users.

Fantastic. This fixed it! . I have NO idea how I made that happen, but how frustrating. I fear I swiped some weird way on my track pad and did that.
