pasted link in Imessages doubles up

In pasting an iNote with a link within it (say, a reference to a website) unto iMessage, the pasted info repeats the original link but this time within parenthesis.

I was able to resolve this behavior (jump to RESOLUTION STEPS below for the solution), which I have been seeing for several versions of iOS now... when copying a URL (hyperlinked or not) from Notes, and pasting into Messages. A. Noy. Ing.

Here's a fine example of the problem. ;-)

Or, I've provided the same attached here.

RESOLUTION STEPS (performed with the combination of iOS 16.3.1 on iPhone 13, and MacOS 13.3.1 on MacBook Pro using Notes with iCloud).

  1. In Notes on Mac, right-click on the URL you want to copy, and select Remove Link. (You might need to/want to click out of the note you edited on your Mac to allow for iCloud to sync the edit to your iOS device).
  2. In Notes on iOS, tap into the note that contains the URL you just edited (which should now appear as regular text once iCloud syncs the note) and you'll be able to double-tap on the URL you want to copy, and select Copy.
  3. In iOS paste in Messages. You should only see exactly what you copied, without that annoying extra URL in parentheses.
  4. IMPORTANT: After you remove the links and return the note on iOS, then click "Done" in the top right, (or navigate to a different note) you may see the URLs appear that they have been automatically hyperlinked again. However, simply tap anywhere on the note except for the URL you want to copy, and you'll see the automatic hyperlinking disappear. Then you'll be able to double-tap the URL to select it, and copy.

I hope this works for you!

Hello.. this link embed issue is driving me crazy. If I copy, for instance, a paragraph from a news story that has a link embedded in it and I paste it to iMessage to share with a friend, it pastes the ENTIRE EMBEDDED LINK and turns the message into a disaster because some of these embedded links can be quite lengthy. Sample attached. In the sample the word ‘expected’ was a hyperlink. You’ll see that it inserted the entire link rather than just pasting the text of what I copied. And if what I copied happens to have multiple links then it inserts all of those as well. This is a relatively new development and only started, I believe, with the iOS 16 updates.

Hello Joseo,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about sharing hyperlinks in Messages. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

Do you have this same issues when you share the link directly from the website in Safari? Here's a resource that can help: Share or post webpages in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

1. In the Safari app  on your Mac, click the Share button  in the toolbar or choose File > Share.
2. Choose how to share the webpage.
When you email a webpage, Mail lets you choose whether to send it as a webpage, PDF, link, or Reader article (if the webpage is an article). See Email a webpage.
To choose which items appear in the Share menu, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Privacy & Security  in the sidebar, then click Extensions  on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) See Change Extensions settings.

If that's not the issue you're experiencing, please provide the community additional details.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

Same - I like to email myself links so that I can copy them from email and paste them into a message to other people. That way the link appears as sort of an embedded little sneak peek in the message. If the link is pasted twice it defeats this purpose. I have to manually delete the URL in parenthesis (with my old man eyes, btw) in order to get everything to work like it should.

Come on Apple - We're making some noise over here!

I am having the same trouble with notes when I copy link into messages. I have called apple and they couldn’t help fix this problem. I have this problem also on my iPad. This prostrated with an update. Apple doesn’t seem to know if this problem. Who can NYKO us get this annoying problem fixed? See my example.
