HP27f monitor works with other things but not the MBP 2014

We have just purchased a new monitor - works with other things but not the macpro (made 2014). Macbook works with brand new TV, old HP and other monitors. Monitor works with non-mac computer so does not appear to be a problem with the monitor. Thoughts appreciated

Thanks!

You do not say what exact Mac /model /year /size /retina /TouchBar is this

or

what exact macOS you are currently running?
