Can't sign out of a nonexistent ID

My iPad is connected to a nonexistent apple ID that I deleted about a month ago and I received the confirmation that it was deleted. I cannot sign my iPad out from it to delete it and replace it with the working information. How do I fix this situation?

contact Apple ID Support. They will need to see the original purchase receipt with the serial number/paperwork.
