Face recognition

iPhone face recognition will not recognize my face when I wear my covid 19 mask. I cannot register a new fave with the mask on so I can’t use my phone to pay in public

Face ID validation in face mask? Is there a way to add an alternative appearance that includes wearing a face mask? I would like to avoid taking off my mask to use Apple Pay or unlocking my phone, and avoid extra touching to unlock with passcodes. I tried setting up an alternate appearance but it complained my face was obscured. Is there a way to get enough data points with a face mask on to leave Face ID on?

Correct. You can't wear a mask and use Face ID.

Use a passcode instead.

Then you will need to use your passcode.
