System reboot while Macbook is in sleep mode

Hello,

since I'd updated my OS to Catalina 10.15.4, I faced the issue that my Mac is permanently rebooting while in sleep mode. Attached the error message I received. Did someone faced the same issue?

I've a MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019.

Hi joachim_d,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you're having an issue with your MacBook Pro restarting while sleeping, and I'd like to do what I can to help.

Kernel panics can be a challenge to troubleshoot, as it could be caused by hardware or software. This article can get you started with some troubleshooting steps: If your Mac restarted because of a problem

I noticed the panic report mentions graphics, if you are using an external monitor, I'd suggest testing with it disconnected also.

If you're not able to resolve this, I'd recommend contacting Apple Support. Let them know what's happening, which MacBook Pro you have and what troubleshooting steps you've done.

Take care!

This is a known issue—

Until an update is released, try from >System Preferences>Energy Saver

and disable Auto graphic switching

I removed dropbox yesterday based on this comment. I can report I have already passed 24-hours with no forced-panic reboot. I manually removed the dropbox Kext as well. I'll report back in a few days if anything has changed. Using dropbox web-only for now.

Thanks, tr1p0l1

Awesome! I've looked into this further and the issue may be a bit broader in scope -- specifically, it looks like there is a bug specific to 10.15.4 that causes a panic when there is significant I/O activity occurring when the MacBook goes to sleep. Dropbox, by its design, is a pretty I/O-heavy program -- but it appears other apps that download/upload a lot (like Photos, OneDrive, etc.) may also cause the panics to happen.

The silver lining is that this problem appears to be entirely software-based and fixable; there is no hardware issue with the computer. Hopefully 10.15.5 fixes this!

Thanks for adding this in because the original post was not referenced.

I have seen other reports the same.

I have the very same issue since yesterday. It was "triggered" while I was working on Photoshop and running very low on battery.

I could plug it as there was <1%, saw the charging sign, thought it was good, so I resumed working for 4 secondes and the mac turned off.

Since that event, it keeps restarting when it enters sleep mode and wake up with a message saying it didn't shut down properly.

I have a 2017 MBP 15 up to date and I'm also running Dropbox and drive.

I tried to modify the economy saving settings as mentioned. Wait and see ;)
