Memory of ipod 160 classic

I have an ipod classic 160gb manufactured in 2009 and while syncing today the computer said i needed more memory. I have 8700 songs only (no videos, podcasts, etc.) From what I can tell, the ipod should hold up to 25000 songs. I don't want to delete artwork or duplicate songs. Can you get more memory (computer suggests 72 more) or how do I free up space without deleting information?

The potential number of songs was based on standard length pop songs at a relatively high level of compression. If you have longer or higher bitrate songs then clearly there will be space for fewer of them. There is a feature when syncing from iTunes to Convert higher bitrate songs to XXX AAC which if enabled might allow more of your library to be added to the device.

Make sure that your library is backed up before you start.
