Shutting down MacBook Pro 16-inch on Catalina
When I shutdown my Mac the dock stays at the bottom of the screen and doesn't disappear before shutting down. Is this normal?

The Dock is always visible unless you changed the setting in Dock preferences. Your computer does not shut down when you close the lid. To shut down the computer you must select Shut Down... from the Apple menu or press Command-Option-Delete keys.

I always fully shut down my Mac, but should the dock not disappear before it shuts down?
The screen should turn black when it shuts down fully. Are you being sure to wait until the keyboard backlight shuts off before closing the lid?
It's not a problem I just wanted to see if it was normal for the dock to stay on screen before turning off. My old Mac ran El Capitan and the dock used to go off screen before turning off.
Open Dock preferences. Check the option to Automatically hide and show the Dock.
