Changed my Apple ID, but old email address shows in settings. CANNOT delete it!
I recently changed my Apple ID to reflect my current email address. I set up my first iPhone with an old email address and, if I remember correctly, many years ago you could not change your Apple ID once it was set. My Apple ID was a @gmail account address, which also populated the same name as an @icloud address...Or I set it that way years ago, I can't remember.
Either way, I changed my Apple ID, but now when I go to Settings, and click the very first box for "Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store" it shows my photo, my name, and below my name is still the old, original @gmail account that was my Apple ID. If I click on "Name, Phone Numbers, Email" it shows my new email address for my Apple ID, my phone number for iMessage and FaceTime, and below that still shows my old email address as an @icloud.com account.
I logged into the appleid.apple.com site on my desktop and went to manage my account info, and it already showed my new Apple ID. From there, I went to iCloud Mail>Settings>Accounts and again, the old email address as an @icloud.com IMAP account (whatever that is) is there with no way to change it.
How do I completely get rid of this old email address? I want to officially, fully delete the email account but am afraid if I do it will somehow affect some operations on my Apple devices. I assume now that I changed my Apple ID that any and all emails will go to that address, but the fact that I can not get rid of this original email address, which still shows in different setting pages as an @gmail account and @icloud account, will screw something up.
