Face ID Stopped and Cannot Be Reset

When I go to Set Face ID back up, I get "move a little lower", then "move a little higher". Then it times out and says it cannot be set up.

I've only had this device for two months, and right now it's a practically a freeken brick. I have to recall and re-enter dozens of different passwords by hand. Thanks.


Steps so far: All of the steps in the Apple "Help" suggestions; plus, Reset All Settings (thanks, now my lovely custom background is gone too). Yes, I did back it up to the cloud before resetting everything.


Tried calling the Apple helpline. Yeah -- busy. What a surprise.


I'm frustrated, ****** off, and super-cynical at the moment.

But if you did everything that is in the document, like you have wrote at least 3 times if not more, then looks like you have missed this part:


If you can’t enroll your face, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider or contact Apple Support.

Thanks. The steps in this link are the steps I was referring to when I said I had already done "All of the steps in the Apple "Help" suggestions" in my original question. I have already done ALL of the steps in the Apple "Help" suggestions.


Again... the suggestions that are found at "https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208114" have ALREADY BEEN DONE by me.

Thanks. I don't think it's your fault that this wasn't helpful. Regarding Step 7 in the list (thanks for copying in your answer), I can't "take [my] device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider" because COVID-19. That leaves "contact Apple Support", which is how I got to this discussion thread in the first place.


Again... not your fault. This entire thing is nothing but circular, and that's Apple's fault. I'll just keep fat-fingering in my passwords until the pandemic stops, and then hopefully Apple will fix my phone.

I would still suggest you contact AppleCare about your iPhone. No harm to try in case there is something missing. Plus it will be in their record that your reported as issue. No one really knows how long will it take for this pandemic to finish. Don’t know what country you are in but in some Apple has Mail-in-Service available; you could have all service done without leaving your house.
