Unable to update to Pages 10.0 in Catalina

Hi all - I'm struggling here. I have installed Catalina (10.15.4) on my iMac Late 2015 and then was notified that there were updates available for both Pages and Keynote. I tried, and failed, to install the updates so followed some advice I found on the internet to remove these programs entirely and then try downloading from new from the App Store. However, all I get is the App waiting to load but never making any progress. Any suggestions?
