on Apple TV app there is no option to register utilising the promo of 1-year free. Instead on the offers section it presents only the 7day free trial. how can I activate the offer?

If it was purchased from Apple or an authorized reseller then it would qualify. Note: refurbished items from other sellers don't count. If that's been verified and you still are having issues then contact Apple support.
