Quicktime won't save

I am having trouble saving a Quicktime movie that I've trimmed. I found posts on this forum going back as far as 2015 about this, and offering various workarounds. Surely this should work without needing workarounds?

I'm using QT 10.5 on a year-old MacBook Air.

export iMovie to Quicktime crashes the iMovie app. What can I do? I created a movie in iMovie and I would like to share it with someone, privately (not Facebook, YouTube, etc.). After I clicked on the "Share" icon in the upper right corner of the iMovie browser, I select "file" in the menu which then causes iMovie to unexpectedly close. If it matters, I am using iMovie 10.1 on High Sierra.

Can't Save or Export QuickTime Video on Catalina 10.15.3 I am having a problem with QuickTime on Catalina 10.15.3. This is on a 16-inch Macbook Pro (2019). I recorded a Zoom video, which automatically used Quicktime on my computer. I made a copy of the video and edited it -- all in QuickTime -- and followed the app's own Help screen for how to save a video. Command-Save led to Export-As, and all seemed well. I even told it to export to the QuickTime player on iCloud, as the directions also said. But then this error message popped up: "QuickTime Player can’t open movie. The file isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player." I've tried this several times, and it's bizarre. This is a QuickTime Video, edited in QuickTime itself, and told to export to QuickTime Player on iCloud. What is going wrong? By the way, I also tried saving this elsewhere in iCloud, where I normally store Zoom videos. The same error message occurs. Help?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Being able to save your work in QuickTime is important, and I'm glad to see how I can help.

Can you provide some detail about the issue you're experiencing? When you say you're having trouble saving the trimmed movie, what happens? If you get an error, what does it say?

If you try opening a different video and make a few quick trims as a test, are you able to save it?

Also, to which folder are you saving the video? You might try a few different folders to see if that helps.
