Apple News missing Fundamental Features

Why doesn't Apple News support the following two fundamental features?

  1. Word lookup (dictionary)
  2. Search with <search engine>

I prefer Safari to News because I can quickly use Word Lookup or Search while reading to better understand the article in context. News would be more useful to me if it had these features.
