5G on 2nd gen Apple Tv wont join even with different SSID

Got a new router and wanted to connect it to my 2nd Gen Apple TV on 5G network. SSID of 5G network is the same as the 2.4 Ghz with the addition [appended] of "-5G". The list of available networks initially shows the 5G wifi, but wont join after password enter/submit. Then it is no longer listed in the available networks. Some say the 2nd gen ATV should work on 5G, but I cant get it done. The router is just right accross the room from the ATV module.

Apple TV (2nd generation) - Technical Specifications

802.11n does allow operating in the 5 GHz band, but less channels and more narrow than the later standard 802.11ac uses. Compatibility issues with your router may make it difficult to use the 5 GHz band.

It is not recommended to use two SSID names, one for each band, as it splits your home network in two logical networks, where devices on one cannot ‘talk’ to devices on the other. This could block AirPlay and other local functionality.
