Airpods 2nd gen skipping songs when running.

I have airpods generation 2 and an iphone X. When I jog outside, my airpods skip songs or restart the song frequently. This can be quite frustrating. I've looked up online how to fix this, but nothing that ive found has worked. Ive disconnected and reconnected them. I've held open the charging case in attempt to prompt some type of "setting", I've clicked on the info icon of them under Bluetooth in my phone, I've also tried to software update them. Nothing prompts setting changes. For all I know, it may even be the iPhone x skipping songs? Regardless I'm about ready to sell them over it and get a none apple product.
