Magic Keyboard Folio with STM Dux Shell Case for iPad Pro (3rd generation)

Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking for a keyboard for my iPad Pro (12.9 inch, 2018) and would like to if it's possible to combine the STM Dux Shell Case (compatible with the smart keyboard folio) with the new magic keyboard folio.

Also, just to be sure, please let me know if the 4th gen Magic Keyboard Folio is compatible with the 3rd gen iPad.

Kind regards,

Eduardo

I have worked with the iPad Pro 12.9” 2018 with the new portable keyboard dock—the so-called Magic Keyboard.

An additional “close-fit” case will emphatically not work with the iPad keyboard dock—the iPad Magic Keyboard.

The iPad keyboard dock covers both the front and the back of the iPad, and the stand is the back of the case, folded out. See the photo, below.

The new iPad Pro Magic Keyboard is in many ways an updated and more portable version of the 30-pin iPad keyboard dock from the earliest iPad models.

The iPad Magic Keyboard dock is also a folio-style design, so I’d not assume any protection from drops. And I’d expect a drop involving both the iPad Pro and the keyboard dock will be, well, expensive.

A laptop-sized sleeve case is probably the only option for added coverage, right now. Or removing and swapping among cases, of course.

A “folio” case with keyboard, by definition, covers/protects both sides of an iPad when closed. As such, a “folio” case cannot be combined with another case solution - such as the STM Dux range of hard cases.

As to your second question, Apple’s website states that the new Magic Keyboard for the 4th Generation iPad Pro models are compatible with the equivalent 3rd Generation iPad models.

I hope this is helpful in answering both your questions.
