Notification for Update that isn't available
Hi, my iMac is running on 10.15.4; I've got an update notification that won't clear even though nothing's available..?

Delete this file…
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist
Had to do the restart, all fine now - thanks!
For info - this also cleared another problem; I couldn't shut down normally, it always hung up after the dock closed. I had to force it off on the power button.
Thanks for your help.
Hmm... I has the same problem a while back, but can't remember exactly how I got it to clear.
You tried restarting the iMac after deleting the softwareupdate.plist... that dialabrain suggested?
If that does not help, then try starting up in Safe Mode followed by a Normal restart.
Close System Preferences then reopen. If that doesn't work restart your Mac.
Or look in System Preferences > Software Update:
Starting with OS 10.14 Mojave, Apple moved some system file updates, like Safari and Security Updates, from the Mac App Store to the S.U preference pane.
Thanks for your reply - sorry, I can't find that. No idea where Library is... I'm a total novice at this stuff.
Thanks for your replay - it says no updates available.
Found and deleted - still got the notification...
You're welcome.

No problem. While in the Finder, press "command shift G" and paste the line I posted into the window that opens. click Return and it will highlight the file. Move it to the Trash then empty the Trash.
