Downloaded zip file from spotify.com, unpacked it, double clicked on the Install Spotify.app file it shows gray Install Spotifay text in the middle of the screen and nothing happens. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

You download the app from the Apple App Store not the PC version.
You then go to Spotify in Web browser and set up a subscription and payment method if you want to be free of adverts
